Questions & Answers
How does ThermaLipo II Radiofrequency work?
Using a safe and effective bipolar arrangement, Radiofrequency (RF) energy is applied to the skin, causing gentle heating. For the treatment of cellulite the deepest layers of the skin are heated to a temperature which increases local blood circulation, encourages drainage of fatty deposits into the lymphatic system, promotes the breakdown of fibrous tissue and leads to a reduction in the volume in fat cells. During skin tightening procedures, the heating action accelerates collagen production and leads to a contraction of collagen fibres; restructuring and tightening the skin.
How is the treatment carried out?
A thin layer of gel is applied to the area to be treated and an applicator delivering RF energy is moved in circular motions to warm the skin. Once the desired skin temperature is reached it is then maintained for a few minutes for the optimal effect. Each session typically lasts 45 minutes, depending upon the treatment area. The gel is then removed and a cooling lotion is applied.
Am I suitable for treatment?
If you are pregnant then treatment is not advisable. Cellulite treatment can be carried out if you are generally healthy and not excessively overweight.
What should I expect after treatment?
The treated area may be pink for a short time after treatment but this will subside quickly. Normal activities can be resumed immediately and no special aftercare is required. Immediately after treatment, contraction of collagen fibres improves skin elasticity and the skin should appear firmer.
How many treatments are necessary?
Generally a course of 6-8 sessions is recommended for facial skin tightening and series of 8-10 treatments for the reduction of cellulite. In the case of stubborn cellulite, additional treatments may be required.
Is the treatment effective?
The immediate effect is a contraction of collagen fibres, firming the skin tissue. However, the full benefits are not usually experienced for 2-3 months following treatment. The ongoing effect, is due to the production and deposition of collagen and elastin in the skin. Generally after a facial treatment, the skin is described as 'more compact' and 'firmer'. For cellulite treatments there is normally an immediate improvement in skin texture, followed by a reduction in contour measurements, the degree of which is variable from person to person.
How long will the results last?
Following a course of treatment, results are expected to last 1-2 years. However, for maximum benefit, maintenance sessions are often advised. The interval for maintenance sessions will vary but once every three or four months is generally recommended.
Consultation Procedure
Prior to treatment you must first undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained in order to confirm suitability for treatment. You may be considered unsuitable if you have a pacemaker or metal plates or pins in the treatment area. Before proceeding with treatment you will also be asked to complete a consent form.
