Questions & Answers
How does ThermaLipo Radiofrequency work?
A form of energy called Radiofrequency (RF) is applied to the skin via a bipolar applicator and
gently heats the deepest layers of the skin. Raising the temperature increases local blood
circulation, encourages drainage of fatty deposits into the lymphatic system and promotes the
breakdown of fibrous tissue and a reduction of volume in fat cells.
How is the treatment carried out?
A thin layer of gel is applied to the treatment area and an applicator is moved in circular motions
gently warming the skin. Once the desired skin temperature is reached, this is then maintained for a
few minutes to ensure consistent deep tissue temperature is reached. Typically each session lasts
30 to 45 minutes depending upon the treatment area. The gel is then removed and a cooling lotion is applied.
Am I suitable for treatment?
If you are generally healthy and not excessively overweight, then ThermaLipo radiofrequency treatment can
help you to re-contour your body with minimal risk. The procedure works best for cellulite removal and fat
reduction on small areas such as the abdomen, "love handles", "saddle bags", knees, inner thighs and arms.
What should I expect after treatment?
The treated area may be pink for a short time after treatment but this will subside quickly. Normal activities
can proceed immediately and no special aftercare is required. Immediately after treatment the contraction of
collagen fibres improves skin elasticity. Other benefits are progressive and the full effect is generally seen
after a course of treatment.
How many treatments are necessary?
Generally a course of 8 to 10 treatments are recommended at weekly intervals. In the case of stubborn
cellulite, additional treatments may be required.
Is the treatment effective?
Designed by dermatologists, the ThermaLipo's efficacy has been demonstrated through multicentred clinical trials.
How does the treatment feel?
Due to the unique, multi frequency technology delivered in a ThermaLipo treatment, there is no discomfort.
ThermaLipo initially heats deep within the tissue and then alters its frequency automatically to heat the
skin's surface. A warm, gentle heating sensation is experienced and no anaesthesia or pre-cooling of the
skin is required.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare but can include mild discomfort, oedema (swelling) and erythema (redness) which disappear in a few hours.
Consultation Procedure
Prior to treatment you must first undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained in order
to confirm suitability. Before proceeding with treatment you will also be asked to complete a consent form.
